Common Names: Christmas Fern, Canker Brake Fern
Dagger ferns (Polystichum acrostichoides) get their name from their lance-shaped fronds and make a sharp-looking addition to many artistic floral designs. These ferns are also frequently called Christmas ferns due to their ability to remain green even throughout the cold winter and Christmas season. With a little simple TLC, this hardy fern will last a week or more; keep it hydrated and stored in a cool place. Native to North America, this fern is found in abundance year-round and creates the perfect backdrop to winter, spring, summer and fall weddings, fundraisers, birthdays and other festive events and, of course, Christmas parties and gatherings.
Pair them with leather leaf ferns, seeded eucalyptus and Italian ruscus for a wild, yet romantic bouquet of greens, or arrange them around several stems of white peonies for a full, lush design. During the holiday season, group them with sprigs of evergreens, pine cones and red amaryllis accented with an antique lantern for a charming holiday centerpiece.
